- ARA severe

It is found in humid forest and semi-húmeda low, even swamps or on banks, and secondary environments, between 300 and 2000 m.
It nests in hollows of trees or dead palmas, in season "dry". The eggs are white and usually have two to three in each clutch. The female incubates the eggs for some 28 days and the chicks leave the nest about 70 days after birth.

It is distributed in two large nuclei. One from Panama, Colombia North and West of Venezuela, up to Ecuador and North of the Peru by the Pacific coast. And another in the Amazon, from the Guyanas and South of the Orinoco, up north of Bolivia and Brazil Centre.

Medium-sized (43 to 48 cm.). Dark green overall color, with brown front, White and bare skin on the face, bluish tint on Crown, red border of the middle part of the wing, end of the same and edge of the blue tail. In flight, shows the dark reddish inside the wings and tail.

Not threatened; It has however disappeared in where before it was abundant, common in captivity and its demand is not very high.
