History

Natural breed known for centuries in the Bucovina region, in northeastern Romania, the Romanian Bucovina Shepherd was brought to light for the first time in 1934 by G. Radulescu Calafat, publisher of the first Carpathian Sheepdog standard, who mentioned in an article published in the journal Vet Sciences another shepherd dog of molosoid type called ยซDulauยป or ยซCapauยป.. Until then, the Romanian Bucovina Shepherd had been compared to Romanian Carpathian Shepherd Dog, smaller.

While the Romanian Bucovina Shepherd has long been used as a guard dog for flocks of sheep against large predators in the Carpathians, like bears, wolves and lynx, it has also been used for many years by Romanian farmers as a guard dog.

In 1982 the Romanian Cynological Association, the canine organization of reference in the country, developed a first standard that described the Romanian Bucovina Shepherd. It was updated in 2001 and 2002 in accordance with the FCI requests (International Cynological Federation) with a view to their recognition of the breed, what actually happened provisionally in 2009.

In 2019, the Romanian Bucovina Shepherd obtained the definitive recognition of the FCI. On the other hand, not yet recognized by the British reference organization, The Kennel Club, nor by the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the United Kennel Club (UKC).

In fact, still very rare outside its country of origin and some neighboring countries, like Ukraine or Serbia. In Romania there have been 6.000 specimens in the Romanian Stud Book, but only the breeding of 300 females and 200 males, as Romanian law imposes many restrictions on the breeding of dogs.

The head, which is wide and carried slightly higher than the body, blends in with the voluminous and moderately long neck, which forms an angle of 100 to 110 degrees with the rest of the body.

The muzzle is black, the eyes are relatively small in relation to the head, the powerful jaw is chisel-shaped and the V-shaped ears with rounded tips fall along the cheeks.

While the head and the front of the legs are covered with short hair, the rest of the body is covered with dense hair, long (6 to 10 cm.) and quite stiff. The coat is predominantly white, marked with black spots, gray or leonadas well defined. But, the standard of Romanian Bucovina Shepherd it also recognizes unbleached, uncoloured specimens that are completely white, white as snow, gray like ash or black.

Although he is practically unknown outside his native country, This dog of woolly appearance is a class dog, worthy of greater international recognition.
Owners say these โ€œcuteโ€ little dogs, nicknamed for their peculiar appearance and picturesque expression, have been part of farming and family life for a very long time. The Smooth Collie, today it is considered a variety of Border Collie in countries such as the United States and Canada

Content

The Shorthair Collie is a breed of dog originally developed for grazing. It is a variety of the Border Collie. Some canine organizations, to the copies of Longhair and shorthair, classified them as variations of the same race.

History

The early history of Smooth Collie, like many breeds of dogs, It is largely a matter of speculation. The most common opinion of the breed is that they are descended from a population of sheepdogs brought to Scotland by the Romans in the 5th century. (See more information about the breed ยปCollieโ€).

The modern history of both Collie, the Smooth Collie and the Rough Collie, It began in the reign of Queen Victoria, He turned his attention in the dogs of the shepherds and ordered that they bring to their balmoral castle in Scotland, some specimens. In 1860 years. At that time, the interest of the Queen, made the breed fashionable Smooth Collie. Thus began the transformation of the farm dog breed, similar to modern Border Collie, Pet highlighting its aesthetics and preparation for dog competitions, sample, for example.

The Smooth Collie, today it is considered a variety of Border Collie in countries like the United States and Canada, which means that they can be crossed and in the statistical registers, are registered as โ€œCollieโ€ without specifying if it is a Rough Collie or a Smooth Collie.

In other countries, such as United Kingdom and Australia, they are classified as separate breeds, but for a very short time, the UK Kennel Club allowed the two varieties to be crossed until 1993.

The layer is two-fold, one is soft and dense stuck to the body, and the outer layer is smooth and hard for a length of 2,54 centimeters, with the most dense hair around the neck forming a collar, and in the back of the thighs. The coat requires a weekly brushing. Unlike other Collie, It presents non bangs…, the hair is short.

If a specimen is seen, it may be with English or French tourists… It is not a dog that has had much fame in our country, However in England or France, for example, they tend to be quite often.

If a reader is determined to have a Smooth Collie We leave you the websites and emails of breeders from France and England:

Miniature American Shepherd

With his alert expression, attentive and intelligent, the Miniature American Shepherd has all the qualities of Sheepdogs

Content

History

In forty years, Americans have managed to fix the characteristics of this new breed, from the strains of small Australian Shepherds. Recently, the American Kennel Club (AKC) agreed to integrate and, therefore, recognize the Miniature American Shepherd as a race in its own right, integrating it into the Herding Group โ€œShepherd Dogsโ€ … next to his ancestor, the Australian Shepherd.

In the decade of 1960, the little ones Australian Shepherd who worked on the United States rodeo circuit were selectively bred to further reduce their size. The new breed was originally called the Miniature โ€œAustralian Shepherdโ€. "They became especially popular with riders who traveled to horse shows, since his intelligence, "loyalty and size made them an excellent travel companion.", say the experts of the Club del Miniature American Shepherd from the USA. "In this way its popularity spread throughout the country."

Currently, the breed is recognized by the FCI (International Cynological Federation), in view of the number of breeders that are embarking on the selection of this breed of dog in Europe.

    History

The Komondor is a breed of dog originating from Hungary, where it has been fulfilling its mission as a herding dog for more than 1000 years. Its long white fur allows it to blend in with the flocks of sheep it cares for and which it especially resembles.. So you can take threatening predators by surprise, including impressive opponents such as bears or wolves.

It probably originated from the dogs that came to Hungary with the Magyars, nomads who came from Central Asia around the year 900 d.C. and they took their dogs to tend their flocks of cattle and sheep. Other experts argue that the ancestors of Komondor they arrived with the cumans, another Turkish nomadic people who, after the Mongol invasion of 1237, took refuge in present-day Hungary.

It is this last hypothesis that we find in the name of the race, since the term "Komondor" comes from "Quman-durยซ, which means "Dog of the Cumans". Although researchers have found the remains of these dogs in Cuman cemeteries dating back to the 13th century, the oldest written description dates from the 16th century.

At the end of the 17th century it was very popular in Hungary, and has remained so ever since. Raised and selected for their courage and strength, It was used mainly in the field to monitor farms, and in the mountains to protect the flocks of sheep. Hungarians are very proud of this dog, to which is attributed the considerable decrease in the number of wolves in his country, and that it was not crossed or modified until the middle of the 20th century.

Komondor entered the United States between the wars, and the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized the breed in 1937. But, World War II and then the Cold War ended imports from Hungary.

In more general terms, the breed suffered greatly during these difficult times, seeing that their number decreased considerably. During World War II, many of their representatives were assassinated by the German military, since it was impossible for them to access the farms and houses of the country while this imposing guard dog protected them. Obviously, conflicts also limited its export to other countries.

In the Decade of 1960, Hungarian and American breeders were able to renew their ties, so the import of the Komondor to the United States. While the race was on the brink of extinction (even in your country of origin, mostly due to the consequences of the war), saw their numbers grow considerably and their notoriety do the same, both in Hungary and abroad.

In the United States, attempts in the west of the country to use it as a grazing show promise, and its use throughout the country has been increasing considerably. Logically, el United Kennel Club (UKC), another canine organization of reference in the country, recognized it as an official breed in 1983.

In Europe, over the years 50, the Komondor was crossed with him South Russian Ovcharka, to get new bloodlines. It is also at this time - and more precisely in 1954- When the Komondor was recognized by the Fรฉdรฉration Cynologique Internationale (FCI).

Finally, at the end of the 20th century, there was a new crossing with other breeds of sheepdogs such as the Catalan Sheepdog, the Pyrenean Shepherd, the Bergamasco Shepherd or the Cรฃo da Serra de Aires.

But, this is a rare breed of dog, regardless of the country. In fact, even in the country where a large proportion of the population is, the United States, it is not very common. These may include, just occupy around the place 160 (of 190) in the ranking of the most popular dogs in the United States, based on number of annual AKC registrations.

In France, it is also discreet, since the average number of annual registrations in the Livre des Origines Franรงais (LOF) it's around of 15 since the beginning of the 21st century. It has even experienced a certain decline, since this number was more or less in the thirties around the nineties. Not much better, for example, en el Reino Unido, where the number of registrations per year with The Kennel Club rarely exceeds ten.

    Physical characteristics

The Komondor it is a large and strongly built dog. Your outward appearance, that of a winner and his majestic posture arouse respect in the observer and eventually also fear. Not flattering by nature. The robust body is covered by long hair, always bushy without exception, matted, tufted. Seen in profile, the body is a rectangle lying, almost a square. Protruding above the body, the head appears very densely hairy. The tail is carried hanging with the tip bent almost reaching the horizontal.

Fur: thick and bushy, holding to be felted or strung (in the latter case it is not felted). Presence of sunpelo.

    Color: White, white profile.

    Size: males, of 65 – 80 cm., for a weight of 50 – 60 kg; females, of 55 -70 cm., for a weight of 40 – 50 cm..

    Observations and tips.

The coat may seem difficult to care for, but it doesn't really need any care. It should not even be brushed because its hardiness must be kept intact. For hygiene reasons, must bathe regularly.

    Character and skills

Unwavering courage in the defense and care of the herds in his charge, also from his territory and his master's house. Attack silently and boldly. Consider your district as if it belonged to you, in that it does not admit any strange being. Is distrustful. Your day is happy when you can spend it controlling your territory. During the night it remains in permanent movement.

With good training and in expert hands it can be a good defense dog, although quite conflicting with other dogs, and can bite a man if he is not socialized from the earliest age. Fortunately, it is very docile and a signal from its owner is enough to stop it when it decides to attack.

    Komondor toilet

Komondor's coat begins to lace up when he is eight months to one year old. The coat does not come off much, but the laces must be separated regularly to maintain their appearance, and the coat attracts the dirt. Once a Komondor passes the puppy stage, its fur will probably never have its former pristine whiteness. The coat should never be dirty, tangled or foul-smelling.

To avoid problems, ask the breeder to show you how to care for the coat. Trimming the hair around the mouth and cleaning the dog's face after meals is one way to help reduce odor..

The rest is basic care. Trim nails as needed, usually every week or two. Keep your ears clean and dry. Brush teeth frequently with a vet-approved pet toothpaste for overall good health and fresh breath.

    Komondor Health

The Komondor they are generally healthy, but the conditions that are sometimes seen in the breed include hip dysplasia, eye problems like entropion (a deformity of the eyelid), and juvenile falls, and swelling, also known as gastric torsion or gastric dilatation volvulus.

Do not buy a puppy from a breeder who cannot provide you with written documentation showing that the parents were exempted from health problems affecting the breed. Having dogs undergo a "vet check" is not a substitute for genetic health testing.

Remember that after bringing a new puppy home, has the power to protect you from one of the most common health problems: the obesity. Keep a KomondorA proper weight is one of the easiest ways to extend your life. Make the most of your preventive skills to help ensure a healthier dog for life.

    Rough Collie
Gran Bretaรฑaa FCI 156 . Sheepdogs

The Rough Collie he is a very sweet and affectionate dog, maybe a little shy.

    Content

    History

The Rough Collie is one of the Collie breeds medium-sized and long-haired who was born in Scotland in the early 1800.

As he Rough Collie as the Smooth Collie , they are descended from a variety of grazing dogs from Scotland and Wales.

    • The variety of Scotland, It is characterized for being a strong dog, large, aggressive, raised to care for flocks of sheep in the Highlands, an all terrainโ€ฆ
    • The variety of Wales, However, was a small dog, agile, home and cuddlier, and also pastor of goats.

From the crossing of these two varieties of shepherd dogs are born the precious Collie who we call today Rough Collie and Smooth Collie.

After the industrial revolution, owning a dog became fashionable, people began to acquire copies and began to expand and cross with other breeds. Y, there is a theory that says that those first Collie, were crossed with a Borzoi (Russian Hunting Sighthound) in order to obtain a more โ€œnobleโ€ head (finest), what is today one of the true characteristics of the Rough Collie. But in reality, is not known conclusively if it crosses with the Borzoi It took place on the main stream of the race.

But fashions change as the wind blows... Like for example, When the Queen Victoria acquired a Border Collie, After seeing one in the Balmoral Castle, the Collie they became something like a fashion item.

The issue is that, the Collie they were distributed around the map and continuous reproduction in order to improve the breed for exhibitions, He carried that drastically changed the appearance of the dogs, in the decade of 1960, the Collie was much higher than today.

At the first dawn of the breed the dogs were more robust and resistant, they could travel great distances throughout the day and conserve energyโ€ฆ

Although many theories try to explain them, Unfortunately, the exact origins of the Collie are veiled in darkness. The race has been the subject of much research and speculation. The origin of the word "Collie" is as uncertain as information about the origin of the breed. In the century 18, the natural home of Rough Collie I was in the Highlands of Scotland lands, where it had been used for centuries as a herding dog. Dogs were bred with great care in order to assist their masters in grazing and the monitoring of their flocks.

In the UK the Rough Collie no longer used for cattle grazing, After having been replaced by the Border Collie. Although in the United States and several European countries, there has been a revival in the use of Collie like a working and performance dog, already not are seen as old.

The Club Collie of America was founded the 26 in August of 1886, What makes it one of the oldest clubs in the race. The original club's goal was "the furtherance and improvement of the breed of Border Collie.". From there the first official standard of the breed was drawn up Collie. The celebration of the centenary of the club took place in 1986. Y, Although a lot of time has passed and many things have changed... the objective of the Club remains the same. The Collie Club in England dates of 1881 (Although officially, The American club is oldest...).

The Rough Collie was exhibited for the first time in 1860 in the Birmingham, England, at the dog show ยซScotch Shee-pdogยซ. In 1879 the first Rough Collie it was imported to England. And from there are the pillars of the race.

With the turn of the century, this breed was already in a state of continuous development. This dog continued to flourish in England. As a result of imports, the race progressed rapidly between the years 1900 to 1920. These dogs built the foundation on which the Rough Collie of today and paved the way for the rise of the great and famous American dog kennels in the years 1920 and 1930.

One of them and perhaps the one that catapulted the Rough Collie, He was the author Albert Payson Terhune devoted almost all his life to these dogs. Albert Payson Terhune (21 december 1872 until 18 february 1942) was an American author, Collie dog breeder, and journalist. The public knows him so much for his novels related to the adventures of his beloved Collie, as for its famous hatcheries "Sunnybankโ€, from which the bloodlines of specimens of Rough Collie who live among us today.

    Physical characteristics

One of the characteristic features of the Long-Haired Collie is its delicately pointed head and snout.. It resembles a wedge decline gently from the ears until the black nose. The snout is rounded and never square. The eyes are of medium size and Pacific way. The ears are supposed to be semi erect, folded in the upper third. In appearance they are very similar to the dog Shetland Sheepdog, but larger.

Regarding the coat of hair of the Rough Collie, the admitted colors are:

    • Sable color: Where sable or grey goes from Pale to mahogany.
    • Blackbird: the blue Merle, It is a mottled grey.
    • Tricolor: It is mainly Tan.

All have white areas, in the neck, the back of the legs, and usually the tip of the tail. Some may have white fringes on the face. The American Kennel Club supports white, where is the dog predominantly white with spots of the sable color, Tricolor and blue Merle, in the head and patches in the body as a.

It has dual layer, the woolly, dense subpelo, It is covered by a layer of hair is long and rough exterior with a remarkable necklace around the neck, feathers on the legs, a skirt in the abdomen, and a steering wheel in the rear quarters.

The outer layer needs brushing frequent, careful to keep it free from spikes and thorns, he has long hair and it looks like Velcroโ€ฆ Shearing it is very damaging to the skin and some do not grow back a significant amount of hair after being shaved.

The desired size and weight vary between the breed standards of the different kennel clubs., but trying to balance the measures... a Rough Collie male measures 55,8 to 66 cm in height to the cross, females tend to be a 5 shorter centimeters. Males weigh in 20 to 34 Kg and females are generally lighter (of 2 to 5 fewer kilos).

    Character and skills

The Rough Collie it is a dog that never shows nervousness or aggression, and they are generally good with children and other animals. But, They must be well socialized to prevent shyness. Although they are medium-sized to large dogs, It adapts very well to life in small apartments, because of his quiet nature.

Like many dogs grazing, the Rough Collie can be very vocal (robberโ€ฆ), and in some cases it is difficult to correct them. They are very loyal and excellent with children, provided have been well socialized and trained. They are always eager to learn and respond better to a gentle hand. They enjoy human company and the warmth of home.

To rememberโ€ฆ The character of โ€œLassieโ€ created by the British author Eric Knight was a Rough Collie, It is probably the most famous dog in the world, fictional character who participated in various films, TV series and books for years.

That character inspired screenwriter Hugo Butler in the movie โ€œLassie Come Homeโ€, under the direction of Fred M. Wilcox, in the year 1943. Film that definitively launched the beautiful Rough Collie.

    Health ยซLong-Haired Collieยป

All dogs have the potential to develop genetic health problems, just as all people have the potential to inherit a particular disease. Run, do not walk, from any breeder that does not offer a health guarantee on puppies, to tell you that the breed is 100 percent healthy and has no known problems, or tell you that your puppies are isolated from the main part of the home for health reasons. A reputable breeder will be honest and open about the breed's health problems and the incidence with which they occur in their lines.. The Collie you are prone to a host of health problems. Here is a brief summary of what you should know.

Collies can be affected by a number of genetic health problems, including multiple drug sensitivities due to a mutation in the multidrug resistance gene (MDR1). Dogs with this mutation can have serious or fatal reactions to a number of common drugs., such as preventive ivermectin against heartworm and loperamide, a human antidiarrheal agent that is sometimes used in dogs. Detecting these diseases not only in the parents of your puppy, but also in your dog, it's a life-saving need. The test is simple and only requires a cheek smear.; information on how to test your dog can be found here.

Eye problems are also a serious concern in the breed. One of the most intractable is progressive retinal atrophy (ARP), but luckily the gene for detection was recently identified and a genetic screening test will be available as soon as this year, after which all breeders should have ARP clearances on all their breeding dogs.

The eye abnormality Collie is a group of mild to severe eye disorders. They are present at birth, and can be detected in puppies between five and eight weeks of age. Your puppy's breeder should examine the eyes of all dogs in the litter before selling them.. Have a Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist regularly examine your Collie's eyes. Reputable Collie breeders don't just check their breeders' eyes, but also those of all puppies offered for sale. Do not buy a Collie from a breeder who has not examined puppies' eyes or does not offer a certificate of their eye status.

Unfortunately, the Rough Collie they can also be affected by a number of health conditions for which there are no screening tests. These include epilepsy, as well as a condition called bloating, in which the stomach expands with air. This can become the most serious condition, gastric torsion, if the stomach twists on itself, cutting off blood flow. Gastric torsion suddenly hits, and a dog that was fine a minute can die a few hours later. Watch for symptoms such as restlessness and gait, babeo, pale gums and lip licking, try to vomit but without bringing out anything, and signs of pain. Gastric torsion requires immediate veterinary surgery, and most dogs that have bloated once will bloat again. That means it's wise to opt for the procedure known as "gastric torsion.", which will prevent the stomach from twisting in the future.

Not all of these conditions are detectable on a growing puppy, and it is impossible to predict if an animal will be free of these diseases, so you need to find a reputable breeder who commit to raise healthier animals possible. Must be able to produce independent certification that the dog's parents (and grandparents, etc.) have been examined for common defects and considered healthy for breeding. That's where health records come in..

Careful breeders screen their breeding dogs for genetic diseases and breed only the healthiest and best looking dogs, but sometimes mother nature has other ideas and a puppy develops one of these diseases despite good husbandry practices. Advances in veterinary medicine mean that in most cases dogs can still live a good life. If you are going to have a puppy, ask the breeder about the ages of the dogs in their lines and what they died of.

Remember that after you have welcomed a new puppy into your home, has the power to protect you from one of the most common health problems: the obesity. Keeping a Collie at the right weight is one of the easiest ways to extend its life.. Make the most of your preventive skills to help ensure a healthier dog for life.

    Grooming ยซLong-Haired Collieยป

Both varieties of Collie have double layer, which means they have a thicker, softer inner layer and a thinner, flatter outer layer. The Rough Collie has a beautiful, voluminous coat that seems to need a lot of grooming, but it's not like that. Thorough brushing every one to two weeks will keep the coat healthy and tangle free. The coat of the Smooth Collie it's a piece of cake. Brush it weekly with a rubber brush or soft brush to remove dead hair. Your Collie should not need a bath more than once a month..

The Rough Collie they go through a heavy shedding twice a year, floating dumb call. During this time, brush daily to keep all hair down under control. The Smooth Collie doesn`t blow his coat, but throughout the year he loses more hair than he Rough Collie.

The rest is basic care. Trim nails as needed, usually every few weeks. It shouldn't take so long that you can hear the click on the floor.. Brush your teeth daily to improve general health and breath.

The Kuvasz is an ancient herd guardian breed that originated in Hungary, although their distant ancestors were probably type dogs Tibetan Mastiff.

While the Komondor was used on the grounds lower with drier climates, the Kuvasz was used on the wet pastures of the highest mountains and the two were an integral part of the Hungarian economy. Later, during the century 15, the Kuvasz became a prized animal, the dog belonged to the Royal Court of the King Matthias Corvino. Y, from the kingdom Kuvasz puppies were offered to visiting dignitaries as a royal gift, Legend has it that the King was more confident their dogs than in their own Councillors. After the death of the King, the popularity of the breed among the nobles decreased, but even so the dog continued to have its traditional role in the protection of livestock.

At the end of World War II, almost all Kuvasz in Hungary had been killed. The dogs were used for the protection of their families, reason why were actively sought and killed by German and Soviet soldiers, while at the same time, some German soldiers were a large number of copies to their homes. After the Soviet invasion and the end of the war, the breed was nearly extinct in Hungary.

The word Kuvasz, probably, comes from the Turkish "kavas" which means guard, soldier or a protector. A related theory postulates that the word may have originated from ancient Russian farmers., the Chuvash, who has contributed many words to the Hungarian language.

For a long time, the property of the Kuvasz was restricted, but they were finally used by the shepherds as guardians of the flock. That's the job they're known for today.. The dog's white fur allowed the shepherd to easily distinguish it from a wolf as it blended in with the flock..

    Physical characteristics

The Kuvasz should be of good size, solidly built and with a dignified air. The skull should be slightly arched and not too long, wedge-shaped snout. Leads the small ears hanging in the form of V. The body is rather long, with the slightly outgoing ribs. The legs are strong and not too long. The tail is long, slightly curved at the tip, which wears a beautiful plume. The coat is long, rough and undulating. The color has to be pure white, Although the white ivory can be accepted.

Although the skin is white, the pigmentation of the skin of Kuvasz should be dark and the nose should be black. The eyes must have an almendrada form. The females usually weigh between 35 and 50 kg, While males weigh in 50 to 70 kg, tieneto a bone structure medium. The height at the cross in the males is of 71 to 76 cm and the females of 66 to 70 cm..

For a casual observer, the Kuvasz may be similar to a Pyrenean Shepherd, to the Akbash, a โ€œMaremma Shepherdโ€ dog, a Samoyed, a Pudelhund white mixed with a Labrador Retriever, or some Slovakian dog like him Polish Tatra Sheepdog.

As with many livestock guardian dogs, the color of the layer of the Kuvasz serves a functional purpose and is an essential breed criterion. To develop the breed a purpose clear in the Kuvasz was to realise a mantle of color, to provide pastors distinguish the dog of wolves attacking animals at night. The Komondor, a close relative of the Kuvasz, It has a white coat for the same reason.

The Kuvasz lose a lot of hair from time to time. The rest of care are complicated. We must bear in mind that it is a dog of strong personality, which is why their education must be early and can be put to the test the patience of the educator. You need a suitable space of movement and exercise.

Fur: short, smooth, closed and thick on the head and on the front of the extremities. in the trunk, brazos, tie and tail is long and wavy, and often forms ridges and locks. it's pretty rough, a little stiff and in no case felted. the undercoat is fine and woolly.

    Color: white.

Size: males of 71 to 75 cm.; females of 66 to 70 cm..

    Character and skills

The Kuvasz he is a tireless keeper of flocks, defending the predators. Previously it had also been used as a hunting dog to chase wolves, boars and bears. It is also a great guardian. In his country the police and the army use him as an auxiliary. In recent decades it has also become a companion dog..

Good working dog, reliable watchdog, Pleasant Home Companion, that's the Kuvasz.

It has been used as a livestock guardian, but in recent years it can be found in homes as a pet.

The Kuvasz he is a smart dog and is generally said to have a clown sense of humor, that can last throughout adolescence and adulthood. They are very loyal but patients animals who appreciate human attention, but it also needs its space, they are very independent animals.

According to the classification made by Stanley Coren after analyzing the responses of more than 200 work of the AKC judges ("The Intelligence of Dogs", Stanley city, Ediciones B, 1995), the Kuvasz and el Nยบ 42 from the list.

Despite his intelligence, It should not be perceived as easy to train. His independent personality can make training a difficult task that, You can exhaust the patience, even for experienced owners. As a result, It is not recommended for beginners and those who do not have time to train and socialize in a manner appropriate to their Kuvasz.

On the other hand, many of these qualities make the Kuvasz excellent guardians for sheep or large farms. The Kuvasz has a very special and close relationship with his owner.

It is a sober and suffered dog, It resists weathering in the toughest conditions, Frequent brushing is therefore, necessary to keep their fur clean. A Kuvasz should not smell bad, This is usually a sign of illness or poor nutrition.

Homemade dog is friendly, affectionate and intelligent, and above all an excellent guardian, brave and quiet, suspicious and even reserved with strangers. Under its dignified appearance hides a playful temperament which makes him a loyal friend of children.

It is generally a healthy and robust breed whose life expectancy is about 12 or 14 years.

    Kuvasz Health

In the Kuvaszok, more serious health problems include hip dysplasia, osteocondrosis (a joint disorder that damages cartilage and bone) and a propensity for cruciate ligament injury. An eye disease called progressive retinal atrophy (ARP) is a potential concern, just like hypothyroidism (a common hormonal disease in dogs in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroxine) and vonWillebrand's disease (a disorder of blood clotting).

Not all of these diseases are detectable in a growing puppy, and it can be difficult to predict whether an animal will be free of these diseases, so you need to find a reputable breeder who commit to raise healthier animals possible. Must be able to produce an independent certification that the parents of the dog (and grandparents, etc.) have been screened for these defects and considered healthy for breeding. That's where health records come in..

Do not buy a puppy from a breeder who cannot provide you with written documentation showing that the parents were exempt from health problems affecting the breed.. If the breeder tells you that the tests are not necessary because they have never had problems in their lines, that the dogs have been โ€œvet checkedโ€, or offers you any other excuse to skimp on genetic testing of your dogs, leave immediately.

Careful breeders screen their breeding dogs for genetic diseases and breed only the healthiest and best looking dogs, but sometimes Mother Nature has other ideas. A puppy can develop one of these diseases despite good husbandry practices. Advances in veterinary medicine mean that in most cases dogs can still live a good life. If you are going to have a puppy, ask the breeder about the ages of the dogs in their lines and what are the most common causes of death.

Remember that after you have welcomed a new puppy into your home, has the power to protect you from one of the most common health problems: the obesity. Keeping a Kuvasz at the right weight is one of the easiest ways to extend its life.. Make the most of diet and exercise to help ensure a healthier dog for life.

    observations and advice

not a very well-known dog and, therefore, it is difficult to find a puppy of this breed. However, it is more widely used than Komondor, whose cloak scares many potential buyers. In fact, the coat of the Kuvasz is more difficult to care for, Since it must be brushed periodically to avoid the formation of knots, although it should be washed as little as possible.

    Kuvasz toilet

The Kuvasz has a beautiful white double coat that loosens dirt but also loosens hair. Brush weekly with a pin brush to remove dead hair and keep the skin and coat healthy. Trim the hair between the toes to keep your feet looking good. Its coat repels water and removes dirt easily with brushing, so a bath is rarely necessary.

When summer comes, don't think your Kuvasz has suddenly developed a disease causing hair loss. It is normal for the Kuvasz to lose most of its long coat in hot weather.

The rest is basic care. Trim nails as needed, normally each week the. Brush your teeth frequently with a veterinarian-approved pet toothpaste for overall good health and fresh breath.
